Well, this just stinks, doesn't it.  More bad pet food news...especially for fat cats and dogs.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning letter to pet food maker Iams about an additive in some of its products for fat dogs and cats. ADVERTISEMENT

The letter, dated January 8, 2007, and posted on the FDA Web site on Thursday, said that several Eukanuba-brand dry and canned pet food products made by The Iams Company, a unit of Procter & Gamble Co., contain chromium tripicolinate, which is only allowed as a source of supplemental chromium in swine feed.

Pet Food Recall Grows--Here's a Place To Keep Track

As you probably know--as you should know--an enormous number of wet pet food brands must be recalled, following the suspicious deaths of both dogs and cats from kidney failure.  According to the Pet Connection, who are keeping an informal, self-reported database, to date, their readers report over 500 pet deaths.  This is a grim situation, likely to become more grim before things improve.  My heart goes out to anyone who has lost a pet thanks to this disaster.
