It's finally winter-ish in Hoboken, and soon we'll be celebrating Faith's eighth (!) birthday. In acknowledgement of both of those facts, I took her to our local groovy pet emporium, Cornerstone Pets, to try on a winter coat or three or four. Faith only put up with it because she smelled cats somewhere on the premises. It is never easy to fit our bodacious beagle pit, who has maintained her spectacular weight loss, but still boasts the chest of a pit, and the legs and butt of a beagle. Thanks to the VERY patient Cornerstone folks, coat number five was the charm.
In more ways than one. When Faith is snuggled in her reversible, tartan/red fleece coat (very Audrey Hepburn, if Audrey Hepburn had had fur), she goes outside in cold weather with pleasure. She walks farther, and more comfortably. And I feel more secure about giving her a good walk, as opposed to a dash out the door and back.
Keeping your dog warm in the winter doesn't have to be expensive--I've seen some pretty groovy-looking dogs in baggy human sweaters, trotting along, oblivious to their lack of designer duds. Now, if only I could acquire the same lack of vanity....

Dog Coats? Really? My dog always looks embarassed when we put clothing of any kind on him. Have your dogs gotten used to the winter-wear since they were puppies?

We didn't get Faith until she was two years old...and I have to say, coats have made her a much, much happier dog from the beginning. She used to balk at going out in the rain, complete with sitdown strike. Now, we suit her up in a nice raincoat and she walks...well, pretty willingly.
It's fun if the coats are cute. It's ideal if they're cute and warm and/or waterproof.

Reversible is fun and fashionable! I found Fetchdog's reversible down dog coat - http://www.fetchdog.com/shop/a/dog-clothing/dog_jackets/A30043 - to be great for the cold and wet East Coast winds and weather.

Happy to help. Her coat is still going strong! (And so is Faith...at 10.75 years.)

lol, awesome stuff. Anytime I try to put a coat on my little cutie she rips it off and runs away, hehe. Your dog must be very tolerant, or you must have some sort of secret trick.

Hi blessings! Excelent article Is totally true we must take care of our dogs in this season Winter can be tough on paws – snow and ice can hurt, and the salt used to melt them can irritate and dry out paw pads. (Salt also can upset the tummy if licked off, so definitely wash your dog’s paws after a walk through any area where salt hany area where salt h
